Along with the release of poverty rate data, BPS also released data on the inequality of Indonesian population expenditure as of March 2021 as measured by the Gini Ratio and a measure of inequality according to World Bank criteria. In March 2021, the level of inequality in expenditure of the Indonesian population as measured by the Gini Ratio increased by 0.003 points compared to the same period the previous year. Increase from 0.381 to 0.384. However, when compared to the September 2020 period, the March 2021 Gini Ratio decreased by 0.001 points. This condition cannot be separated from the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic, which cannot be ascertained when it will end. When viewed from the area, there is a difference in direction between the Urban and Rural Gini Ratio. The urban Gini ratio in March 2021 increased compared to the September 2020 and March 2020 periods. Meanwhile, the Rural Gini ratio decreased. Based on the World Bank’s measure of inequality, the distribution of expenditure in the bottom 40% group was recorded at 17.76%. This means that population spending in March 2021 is in the low inequality category. By province, the highest Gini Ratio was recorded in DI Yogyakarta, at 0.441. DI Yogyakarta has long been an interesting phenomenon, on the one hand it has a high level of human development, but on the other hand several welfare indicators show the opposite phenomenon.
