The subject matter of Spillover and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is an interesting issue, especially as a developing country like Indonesia. The majority of developing countries face the issue of the saving-investment gap in boosting their economic growth, so they must be covered by FDI. FDI is a reliable source of growth because it can create spillovers for the domestic economy. Its existence will be able to encourage long-term economic growth and create jobs.
However, the existence of FDI is not without challenges, because FDI can also create negative externalities, in addition to issues of a political nature, especially related to foreign involvement in the domestic economy. As an open economy, we cannot escape the effects of globalization. The interdependence between countries on the other hand is a fact that cannot be denied.
From an academic perspective, this issue is very important to be studied in depth, both in terms of conceptual-theoretical and implementation, especially the impact it causes. China is the second largest economic giant in the world whose expansion continues to expand throughout the world. Investors from these countries dominate FDI in many developing countries.
Based on this background, Master of Economics Study Program, Diponegoro University will hold Guest Lecturer Program with the theme: “Volatility Spillover and Dynamic Co-movement of Foreign Direct Investment between Malaysia, China and Developed Countries”. This forum is expected to be able to provide knowledge enrichment for the entire academic community at the Faculty of Economics and Business Undip, especially related to spillover and FDI issues and improve an increasingly competitive academic climate.
